How to fry an egg

Determining how to fry an egg to best effect requires that one follow certain rules and guidelines. These rules apply every bit as much before the egg is so much as cracked as they do to when it hits the frying-pan. The procedures are extremely simple but each one forms a significant part of the overall concept of how to fry an egg.

Instructions
Step 1

It is imperative to remove the egg from the refrigerator at least two hours before one attempts to fry it. Eggs are never cooked to best effect straight from the refrigerator and this is especially important when frying an egg.

Step 2

The egg should first of all be broken in to a small bowl or cup, never straight in to the frying-pan. This allows one to exercise far greater control when it comes to the stage of putting the egg in to the pan.

Step 3

A non-stick frying pan should ideally be used to fry an egg. A little oil only should be added to the pan as too much oil will allow the egg to spread out in the pan before it has the opportunity to solidify.

Step 4

The frying pan should be brought up to a high heat before the egg is added. This means that the egg will start to cook as soon as it hits the pan and further prevent it from spreading out excessively across the pan.

Step 5

The heat should be reduced to medium when the egg can be seen to have started to cook. The stage where the egg is likely to spread excessively across the pan will have passed and it is important that the underside of the egg not be crisped or burned before the top is cooked.

Step 6

It is possible to fry an egg with or without turning it. This is established merely by personal preference and perhaps how important one considers presentation to be. If one elects to turn the egg over, this should be done only when the albumen (egg white) is seen to be almost completely cooked. Attempting to turn the egg too soon will lead to it losing its shape entirely and perhaps even breaking up.

Step 7

It will take anything from a minute and a half, to three minutes for the egg to fry, dependant upon how well one wishes the yolk to be set. After the alloted time, the egg should be carefully removed from the frying pan with a spatula or fish-slice and transferred to a serving plate.

I saw the title and it amused me greatly, that got me reading the contents of your zone. You have presented it very well, for such a simple procedure that is part of our every day lives, yet goes unnoticed. I like this How-to. It is very well done and very interesting. Thumbs up!
