How to make patriotic layered Jell-O dessert

Layers of patriotic goodness

Jell-O gelatin is a great way to serve at a July 4th celebration.  This red, white and blue dessert has three layers of red and blue jello and is topped with a creamy white whipped topping. The layers are so attractive that everyone will want to know how you made this dessert.

Instructions
Step 1
Prepare to make dessert

Before starting this dessert, gather 2 packages of any red Jell-O, 1 package of blue Jell-O, Measuring cups, spoons, and dishes to accomodate the dessert.  Reserve an adequate place in the refrigerator to allow the Jell-O to cool.

Step 2
Create layer 1

Boil 1 cup of water. Pour the contents of one package of red Jell-O into a medium sized mixing bowl.  Add the boiling water to the Jell-O.  Stir until dissolved. Add 1 cup of cold water and stir.  Pour layer 1 in one large dish or it can make four smaller dishes or cups.  Place the dessert in the refigerator for at least one hour to chill and set.

Step 3
Create layer 2

Repeat step one using the blue Jell-O package.  After mixing the Jell-O the same as step 1, remove the prepared layer 1 container.  Gently using a spoon, ladle the blue Jell-O on top of the first layer of red Jell-O.  Do not pour the Jell-O from the bowl as it will cut throught the first layer and the layered effect will be lost. Spoon the entire blue layer over the top. Return to the refrigerator and allow to cool and set for at least one hour.

Step 4
Create layer 3

For layer 3, create another red layer of Jell-O.  Follow the same mixing instructions as Step 1.  After the Jell-O is dissolved, Remove the container with the prepared layers 1 and 2 from the refrigerator.  Gently spoon the third layer of Jell-O over the top of the first two layers, making sure that it does not break into the previous two layers. After the entire third layer has been poured, return the container to the refrigerator to chill until ready to serve.  This should be at least two hours and preferably overnight. This will help to keep the layers in tact.

Step 5
Serve and garnish

If the Jell-O has been made in individual cups, top with a dollop of whipped topping with blueberries and strawberries to garnish.  If the Jell-O has been made in a clear square pan, spread the whipped topping as another layer and top with blueberries and strawberries to garnish.
